Projekt Feld-Reise.
9/10/94

To Anatoly Gusarov,

Thank you very much for your fax of 8 oct. Yes I would be interested to find out some details about your uncle, Vasily V. Milovidov.

The base I am particularly interested in is KRAMPNITZ, a quite large base, about 10kms north of Potsdam. It was mainly an existing base of the Germans since late last century, but was after WWII taken over by the USSR and slightly transformed. As far as I know there were about 30,000 soldiers stationed there, and their main task was maintainance of the car- park, which included utility-trucks, tanks and panzers.

If you uncle was there in the 50's, it would be interesting to know what changes were made to transform from German to Russian base, and what the exact purpose of Krampnitz was in the total presence of the USSR in Germany.

The project FELD-REISE', for which this enquiry will be used, includes about 15 artists of different nationalities who have been working on the location of the base, and whose work and/or documentation will be shown in Galerie Staudenhof in Potsdam next month. Myself I have made a complete documentation of the base's prison building. This is a rather small building that doesn't appear on the available maps, so I presume it's definitely built by the USSR-authorities. I have been wondering what it's purpose was, and why and who would be submitted to it.

OK, this is just a short introduction, I can fax or send you more information if you want, or you can also find quite a lot of information on INTERNET, if you have access to it, the project-information is available through entrance-code: E-MAIL: luxlogis @ contrib.de/luxlogis _ hall. html WWW: http: // www.contrib.g-Art/luxlogis/ For press-information you can contact FELD-REISE, Thomas Kumlehn, Galerie Staudenhof, Am Alten Markt 10, 14467 Potsdam, tel/fax 0331-2800234. Some of the other artists included are Roman Signer (CH), ASA European (D), Kraft/Petz (D), Jacques Van Poppel (NL), Evgenij Jufit (GOS), Alexander Mouton (USA).

Again, thank you for you time, if you can tell me something more, please get in touch. I will be in Potsdam as of 22 till 25 october.

All the best,
